2010 Survey of Book-Buying Behaviour
|
|
Conducted on behalf of the
American Booksellers Association, a series of surveys
was conducted November/December 2009 and April 2010.
The
slides show who the avid readers are, where they spend their time and money,
and why they shop in specific book-selling environments.
Independent booksellers are shown how they can convert "mindshare" (the wish to buy at independents)
into "market share" (actually buying there). Did you know that more than half of avid readers who browse in independents actually buy there,
rather than in a big-box store or on-line(slide 24)?
Avid readers are looking for discounts, selection and proximity when they buy.
A discount of 15% is
anticipated to lead to an overall 14% increase in sales.
Did you know that the number of people who say they would NOT buy an ereader has increased
since the end of 2009 (slide 35 et seq)?
See the
full survey.
